West Street Garden

We are also enormously grateful to our neighbors who donated to the fence project at Jane Street and the West Side Highway. As the area is New York State property, the NYS Dept of Transportation planted the space in September 2019 after the fence was installed. Maintenance is an ongoing effort. Please reach out if you would like to volunteer or donate. Pictured, left: Jane Street volunteers digging in compost.

Jane Street Community Garden

Our Trees

Building owners and the JSBA maintain the trees of Jane Street. Thank you to those who so thoughtfully care for our street trees. JSBA contracts with Bartlett Tree Experts to feed and prune as needed along with the six blocks of Jane.  Request a new street tree here. For more about street trees, contact the Forestry Department of NYC Parks or email us

Jane Street Garden Fence Installation Celebrated, December 2018

Planning, permitting and construction for the new fence took several years and a lot of hard work from many people and city agencies; it was a grassroots labor of love. Jane Street's many friends, local and political, turned out to celebrate!

Triangle at Jane/W.4th/8th Avenue

In 2017, the JSBA took over maintenance of the "triangle garden" at the junction of Jane Street, W. 4th Street, and 8th Avenue. We contract with the Horticultural Society of New York, "The Hort," which performs twice-monthly maintenance from spring through late fall. The work is supported solely by JSBA dues and donations. Please click here for more information about the inspiring work of The Hort.

Speakers included former New York City Council Speaker Corey Johnson, who provided funding for the fence; Brad Hoylman, State Senator; Gale Brewer, Manhattan Borough President; and Carter Booth, then president of Community Board 2.
